Arkleton Trust Since 1977

Since its foundation the Arkleton Trust has promoted the empowerment of rural communities. Through small grant funding it facilitates study tours and exchanges between countries, either by groups or individuals, encouraging rural development through the sharing of experience and knowledge gained.

Historically the Trust has supported national and international approaches to rural development policy and practice with particular emphasis on assisting and promoting rural development in the poorer and developing countries around the world.  This has been done through a range of means, including publications, seminars, study tours and fellowships.

Over the years, the Trust found that one of the most effective ways of transferring knowledge and expertise was through study tours and exchanges between countries, either by groups or individuals.  These often involved or were facilitated by NGOs, other grass roots practitioner organisations, universities and governments, but also included less formal arrangements.
