And the winner is…

In the Gambia…

The winner is a group of young men who have decided to set up a business making mango and cashnew nut jam. It was felt by the judges that they had demonstrated a passion and commitment and had carefully thought through the opportunities and threats, the marketing requirements etc. This group has been awarded a grant of 34,000 Gambian Delasis = £500 with the promise of a loan of a further D34,000 in six months if the business is clearly developing satisfactorily.

The runner up is a group of welders who have seen the opportunity that the arrival of electricity now provides and the need for proper fencing, gates for houses, car repairs etc which are currently being provided in the nearest large town, Brikama 25 miles away.

The runners up will meet in Gunjur with the winners of the interschool competition in Wiltshire (see the Vibe challenge which follows). This latter has now reached its conclusion and has been won by Pewsey Vale School students who have developed a business proposal converting waste plastic (bags) into roof and floor tiles.

The two groups will discuss their proposals when the students from Pewsey Vale school travel to and stay in Gunjur in October 2015.
